FOR PARENTS A SPECIAL COVID MESSAGE

First News 1st -7th May 2020 Edition

A book about Coronavirus for children

Dear Parents and Carers

There is a great opportunity for your children to take part in 2020 Charles Causley Trust Young Person’s Poetry Competition.

The competition is open to all children and young people aged 5 – 18 and their website gives full details of the different categories and how to enter.  Please visit https://causleytrust.org to find out more.  Entry is FREE and prizes will include vouchers, books, and other writing-related treats!  Plus, winners will be invited to a prize-giving event hosted by our Patron, Patrick Gale, in October 2020 at the North Cornwall Book Festival.

 The theme of this year’s competition is Environment.

 In the current circumstances, we hope our competition can be used as a creative and inspiring resource for children still attending school and for those who are home-schooling.  Extra time at home or school could be a great opportunity for children to think about the environment and get down to some wonderful creative writing!

Also thought I would share some useful links from CEOP below - CEOP will continue to provide advice relating to keeping children safe online over the next coming weeks;

  • Share our Thinkuknow Parents Helpsheets as appropriate within your communities.
  • Draw parents' and carers' attention to the Thinkuknow website for guidance and support with keeping children safe online.
  • Embed Parent Info in your organisation's website. Parent Info is a newsfeed service offering free support and advice from leading experts on digital family life. Expert advice to help families through isolation and quarantine will be delivered regularly through Parent Info in the coming weeks and months.
  • Embed the ClickCEOP button in your organisation's website. This provides children with a direct route to report online sexual abuse if they feel they do not have a trusted adult to go to. Just email us at ceopeducation@nca.gov.uk with your website URL to get access to the button and guidance on how to use.
