Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Lake Farm Park Academy, we are committed to providing an inclusive and nurturing environment where all pupils can thrive. We aim to foster self-belief, and ambition across our curriculum. As part of the ‘LFP Way’, we encourage pupils to aim high in every aspect of their education and future.

We understand that children have diverse strengths and needs, and some with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) may require additional support to access the curriculum or environment. At Lake Farm we are guided by the SEND Code of Practice, Hillingdon’s Ordinarily Available Provision guidance and the UNICEF Rights of the Child, in promoting our pupils’ access to a high-quality, ambitious, and balanced education.

We want every child to feel safe, respected, and heard and recognise the importance of elevating pupil voice. We embrace neurodiversity and sensory differences across the school, empowering children to understand and appreciate their own unique strengths and to celebrate those of others.

Our SEND provision is led by Mrs Maclaren, our Vice Principal and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo). Our Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) is called Hedgehogs.

If you would like to discuss your child's needs further, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange an appointment with Mrs. Maclaren.

Our Aims for SEND Provision at Lake Farm Park Academy

Alongside providing pupils with access to a broad and balanced curriculum, we are committed to putting the child’s voice at the centre of every decision. Guided by SEND Code of Practice (2015), and Hillingdon’s Ordinarily Available Provision guidance, our school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision aims to:

  • Prioritise early identification and intervention to ensure timely and effective support, using a graduated approach of 'Assess, Plan, Do, Review.' This includes supporting parents and carers with the referral processes of external agencies and signposting to free advice and advocacy services.
  • Promote high aspirations for all learners with SEND.  We recognise the individual strengths of all learners and celebrate their personal, social and academic achievements across the school.
  • Elevate pupil voice in all areas of decision-making and school life Pupils are actively encouraged to participate in the Annual Review process if they have an Education, Health and Care Plan. Pupils with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are supported to recognise their progress against IEP targets each term. Pupils with SEND are visibly included across the school in pupil voice initiatives and extracurricular activities.
  • Provide high-quality teaching, based on Hillingdon’s Ordinarily Available Provision guidance, across the mainstream and Specialist Resource Provision (SRP). Ensuring that high-quality first teaching is available for all pupils and that teachers are equipped to differentiate and adapt their lessons to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
  • Provide an accessible learning environment that recognises a pupil’s individuality and their sensory differences.
  • Collaborate effectively with parents and carers to build strong, positive partnerships whilst meeting families where they are on their SEND journey. In recognising that every family's path is unique, we are dedicated to providing tailored support. This includes signposting to Hillingdon Early Help ‘Stronger Families’, holding regular Coffee Mornings, and prioritising co-production in our development of SEND provision.
  • Liaise regularly, and effectively, with external agencies including health and social care services and therapeutic professionals, to ensure a holistic and co-ordinated approach to support.
  • Regularly monitor the progress of pupils with SEND
  • Provide training in evidence-based strategies for all staff members who support children with SEND.
  • Ensure pupils feel valued and safe by promoting a supportive and inclusive culture where every child can thrive regardless of their needs or abilities.
  • Encourage independence and the development of key life-skills at each Key Stage.
  • Plan effectively for key transitions to prepare pupils for change.
