  • Remote Learning & Google Classroom Survey

    Sat 16 Jan 2021

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We have created a survey on Google Classroom for you and our pupils.

We would greatly appreciate your and your children’s feedback so we can continue to improve the quality of our remote teaching and learning.

We aim for Google Classroom to be a cohesive experience that smoothly manages the pupil and teacher communication. We are working hard to ensure learning can continue at a high standard during this time of school closures for all of our fantastic pupils.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey that can be found in the stream of your child’s Remote Learning Classroom.

There is a separate survey for parents/carers and a separate one for your child/ren.

We look forward to hearing from you and your children soon so we can continue to learn and improve.

    Yours faithfully,

The Senior Leadership Team at LFPA

  • Coronavirus and Remote Learning Update

    Tue 12 Jan 2021

    Dear parents/carers

                                 Coronavirus and Remote Learning Update

National lockdown came into force on 5th January 2021. The government has advised that schools should take additional precautionary measures during this period of national lockdown till February half term.

Further to my letter dated 1st January, we will be teaching remotely through Google Classroom. Only a small number of vulnerable children and children of critical workers are being supported in school by support staff to access the live teaching as their peers daily.

Parents are again reminded to ensure they have a face mask when coming on to the school grounds from the main gates, especially since the emergence of the new Covid-19 variant (The recommended control measures to limit the spread of the new variant continue to be testing, following the existing guidance and abiding by the restrictions, including ‘Hands, Face, Space’ and limiting your number of contacts – PHE guidance 14th December 2020)

Keeping numbers of children in school low

While we appreciate that a number of our families are entitled to have a place in school due to one parent being classed as a key worker, we are experiencing a much higher volume of requests for places than we did during the initial lockdown in March 2020. In order to keep everybody in our community as safe as possible, we ask that you consider school as the best place for your child only if there are no other options available to you. We understand that some parents have to go out to do their job as a key worker and, indeed, that working from home is easier when children are in school, but the safety of our children and staff must be our number one priority. The work in school is exactly the same work that other children are accessing from home. Please consider whether you would be able to keep your child at home before requesting a place; it is undoubtedly the safest place for them.

    Google Classroom

The teachers are working diligently to plan and prepare resources to teach the Spring Term curriculum to all pupils. So can I please urge all parents to ensure that their children are logging in to Google Classroom and accessing it through the Year Group for eg Year 1, Year 6, etc. If your child does not log on to learn remotely, they will then return to school with a huge gap in their knowledge and skills.

Please ensure both you and your child have read our code of conduct and our remote learning policy and are following these rules when completing remote learning from home.

These documents are on our school website and Google Classroom. Additional guidance about accessing Google Meet links and who to contact for support are all contained within this policy and below:

If you are struggling to use Google Classroom on any devices, please see the guides and videos uploaded on our school website and Google Classroom.

I understand that a few parents have expressed concerns that they may have only one laptop to be shared amongst a few of their children. It is important to remember that the older children access their live teaching as on the weekly time table and the younger children can view the BBC TV lessons or complete the work set with adult support at home later in the day. Please contact the school if you have further concerns about availability of devices. You can also use your smart phones, ipads, tablets, etc for your children to use to access live teaching.

I am extremely proud of the good team of professional, passionate and hard-working LFPA staff who are teaching at home or supporting in school. Teachers are busy teaching live since 5th January, taking the register at every lesson, assessing the children’s work, answering parents and children’s emails, giving out school rewards; and planning lessons and resources for the next day’s teaching. Live teaching is double the amount of work that teachers do when teaching in school, so I am full of admiration for all teachers’ resilience. Please make sure that at the end of every lesson, you encourage your child to give the teacher a round of applause to show their gratitude. But most importantly the teachers would also like to see the completed work sent back to them, good learning attitude and children taking part in the lessons.

Below are some lovely comments sent in by pupils and parents:

That’s great news you are still managing to provide hot meals in this cold weather

Mrs Davies (parent of Year 3 and Reception children)

Thank you Mr Kay for a lovely lesson today.

It is so fun and knowledgeable learning from you and learning different methods.

When I do mindfulness my mum also joins in and we find it very relaxing and peaceful.

    Thank you.

    Angel of Year 5

I am so happy with the online lessons and resources that we have been accessing. All of their teachers are giving excellent lessons and engaging the students. As a teacher myself, I know how difficult this is and I wanted you all to know that your efforts are appreciated. I have even picked up tips on how I can conduct my live lessons. Please share this with all staff and thank you for everything during this difficult time.

Mrs N Monconduit (parent of Year 4 and 6 children)

Stay at home. Keep safe. Follow government guidance.

    Warm regards

  • Critical Workers

    Tue 12 Jan 2021

    Dear Parents and Carers

Hope you are all keeping well.

We appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone. Thank you for all the comments and messages of support for the staff and the school. These have been very much appreciated by the staff, who have continued to work hard to support your children and yourselves.

The Department for Education (DfE) updated their guidance late on Friday evening with regard to critical workers. In this latest version they state that “parents and carers should keep their children at home if they can”. As you are aware we have had a significant number of places requested for childcare provision in school, compared to the previous lockdown in March 2020. Thank you to the families who have contacted us to let us know they will be looking at managing their shift patterns as critical workers. If we are able to minimise the number of people in the school building this half-term, the lower the risk of transmission for everyone in the LFPA community and the less chance we have of needing to isolate a bubble. Isolating a bubble will result in some critical workers not being able to attend work for 10 days.

If you are able to look after your child at home or make use of your childcare bubble, could you please let the us know by emailing lfpaoffice@theparkfederation.org

Critical workers (Excerpt from DFE guidance)
Parents whose work is critical to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and EU transition response include those who work in health and social care and in other key sectors outlined in the following sections. Children with at least one parent or carer who is a critical worker can go to school or college if required, but parents and carers should keep their children at home if they can.

We are assuming all parents who require childcare have already either booked or taken up their places. We will no longer be accepting new applications with 24 hours’ notice for places at LFPA. It is important that we continue to help the families with the greatest need for support and for that reason we are implementing a prioritisation criteria and will only be accepting more children into school who meet either of the criteria below:

    • Vulnerable children with an EHCP plan or social care involvement
    • Children where both parents are key workers or, if single parents, children whose main carer is a key worker. NHS, social workers and education key workers will take priority if needed.

This is in the government guidance published 8th January 2021 -https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

I apologise that we have changed the eligibility but this is in response to the unexpectedly high number of requests, the high incidence of the virus locally and the need to keep class sizes down. We will of course keep this under constant review.

Stay at home. Keep safe. Follow government guidance.

    Warm regards

  • Coronavirus update – Spring term school closure

    Fri 01 Jan 2021

    Dear parents/carers,

Following the Prime Minister’s speech on 30th December 2020, I am now writing to let you know that we have been instructed by the government to close the school from Monday 4th January until Friday 15th January 2021.

We will only be able to stay open for vulnerable children and the children of critical workers. You will receive a separate email or phone call if this applies to your family. All other children will need to continue their learning from home until the restrictions are lifted.

We will let you know as soon as the government updates us on the safe return to school or otherwise through the school website and App. Please check on the Home Schooling section of the school website for any updates relevant to lockdown and remote learning.

    Remote education

Remote learning is through Google Classroom from Monday 4th January. The time tables for each phase will be shared on Google Classroom with details of direct teaching provided remotely by teachers. Vulnerable children and the children of critical workers who will be attending school, will be accessing the same lessons being taught by their teachers remotely, as their peers at home. The children will be supervised by teaching assistants.

If you have any questions about remote learning please email the VPs or Year Team Leaders as below.

    Free school meals

If your child is eligible for free school meals, they will continue to receive these while at home. You can bring your child to school for hot meals at the following times – 12.00-1.00 pm for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children; 12.20-1.20 pm for Years 3,4,5,and 6 children. Alternatively, the school will arrange food parcels with Pabulum, our school meals provider, which parents will need to collect from school. We will provide further details about this next week. Vulnerable children and children of critical workers who are also FSM will be provided a hot meal if they are attending school.

What we will not be able to go ahead with

We will not continue with before and after school boosters, interventions and extra-curricular clubs.

A reminder of the definitions of ‘vulnerable children’ and ‘critical workers’

    Vulnerable children are those who:

    • Have a child in need plan or child protection plan
    • Are looked after by the local authority
    • Have an education, health and care (EHC) plan and have been determined, following risk assessment, that their needs can be as safely or more safely met at school
    • Have been assessed as otherwise vulnerable by the school or LA, including children who are:
      • On the edge of receiving support from children’s social care services
      • Adopted
      • Living in temporary accommodation due to social care involvement
      • Young carers

Critical workers are those who work in:

    • Health and social care
    • Education and childcare
    • Key public services (including the justice system, religious staff, charities delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting)
    • Local and national government who are involved in delivering the coronavirus response or essential public services
    • Food and other necessary goods
    • Public safety and national security
    • Transport
    • Utilities, communication and financial services

If you haven’t already, please let us know if your family has had a change in circumstance which means you or your child now fall into these categories. Please contact us on lfpaoffice@theparkfederation.org with your child’s name and class together with details of your critical worker status.

This is as much as we know right now, and we appreciate your continued patience while we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and that it is far from ideal, but we will continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

    Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • a new continuous cough
    • a high temperature
    • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.

    How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19

    Do

    • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
    • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
    • wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
    • follow government guidance with local restrictions and expectations
    • social distancing
